A dry riser is a vertical pipe that extends throughout the height of a building and can normally be found in buildings of 4 or more floors. Its purpose it to allow attending fire brigades to connect their appliance to its inlet valve and pump water through it. This in turn allows the fire fighters to connect their hoses to outlet valves located in convenient positions on each floor resulting in access to a sufficient source of water on any given floor. A wet riser is basically the same however this will be fully charged at all times and will usually be found in much taller buildings. Like all fire fighting equipment, these must be maintained and fire main pressure tests should be carried out on an annual basis, with a visual inspection recommended at 6 month intervals. At C.H.I Fire Solutions we have dedicated teams of Professional Engineers carrying out testing to BS 9990:2006 on a national basis. For more information or a quotation, call us now! |
